About this project
The Mud Creek project is designed to alleviate existing and future flooding concerns in the area to support future development and pathway connectivity, while protecting the environment and wildlife surrounding Mud Creek.
Alleviating existing and future flooding concerns identified in the Mud Creek Subwatershed Environmental Assessment
Improvements to support future development in the area
Creating an naturalized and stable channel corridor to support the ecological environment and wildlife
Creating new recreational pathway connections
Landscaping to enhance walkability and public amenity space
The City of London and AECOM Canada Ltd. are starting the detailed design of the Mud Creek Phase 2 works which generally includes approximately 800 linear metres of natural channel design from the CN Rail embankment northerly to Oxford Street and the construction of a new Oxford Street culvert. The project will serve to create an improved naturalized and stable channel corridor to enhance the ecological environment for wildlife; along with new recreational pathways connections and naturalized landscaping to enhance walkability and the public amenity space.
Tree removals
Some tree removals are planned to occur east of Proudfoot Lane on the south side of Oxford Street in spring 2023. These tree removals are necessary to construct the new Mud Creek culvert on Oxford Street. This culvert will be an underground structure that will convey stormwater flows for the Mud Creek from the north side of Oxford Street to the south side of the street.
Construction of the new culvert on Oxford Street is expected to start in summer 2023 and is expected to last until fall 2023. This is part of the Mud Creek Phase 2A .
Phase 2B of the work will be starting in the fall of 2023.

The channel and slope reconstruction will generally extend from the CN Rail embankment northerly to Oxford Street, along with a new culvert crossing Oxford Street to accommodate the upstream tributary areas that collect and flow into Mud Creek. The channel will be lowered and regraded to increase flow conveyance capacity within the channel. This project will be extensive with significant restorations, tree plantings, multiple habitat features and a recreational multiuse pathway.
