About this project

Thames Valley District School Board and the City of London have partnered to share more than 25 videos about climate action created by students.

The videos were written, filmed, and edited by the students as part of a special project at school in collaboration with the City to highlight the importance of taking local climate action.

The videos share messages about climate change, how to take climate action at home, and how Londoners can work together. Students met with City staff earlier this year to learn more about climate action and were supported by their teacher or Learning Support Teacher within their school to create their video.

How to watch the videos

These videos have been posted on the City’s YouTube channel and website here.

Environmental sustainability at Thames Valley District School Board

Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is committed to protecting the environment around students, staff, schools, and communities.

This work is guided by their Sustainability Framework, which includes three Pillars of Sustainability – Energy, Water and Waste. This framework guides actions to conserve natural resources and promote sustainable practices across all schools.

TVDSB offers diverse environmental education programs, including the Environmental Leaders' Project (H-ELP) and the Wilderness-Based Interdisciplinary Leadership Development (WILD) Program, which engage students in hands-on learning and foster environmental stewardship. The board also encourages schools to undertake waste audits, reduce single-use plastics, and participate in activities like Earth Hour and Earth Day celebrations. Additionally, TVDSB maintains four Environmental Education Centres, providing outdoor learning spaces that enhance students' connection to nature and reinforce sustainability principles.

Why does climate change matter in London, Ontario?

Watch this video from the City of London to learn why it is important we work together to take climate action.

Take climate action at home or at play

Children and youth are the future stewards of our planet and have an important role to play in London and in communities in southwestern Ontario as we grow.

Taking climate action at home can help your household save money, reduce your energy use, minimize or eliminate waste (especially food waste), and be better prepared for severe weather and climate change. Learn more about ways your household can take climate action at london.ca/climateaction.

How you travel to and from school, to other activities in the evening, or travel on the weekend can make a big difference for the environment and climate change. Making sure that sustainable habits are developed at an early age increases the chances of these positive behaviours becoming lifelong practices. By choosing eco-friendly transportation options like walking, biking, or using public transit, students and their families can significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

Never underestimate the health value of more sustainable transportation choices such as the physical activity associated with walking or biking. These activities promote better physical health, and help reduce the risk of obesity and related health issues. Spending time outdoors and engaging in physical exercise can improve mental well-being, helping children and youth develop healthier lifestyles.

Taking climate action at home or at play (and at school or at work) is an important part of London's Climate Emergency Action Plan.

The complete Climate Emergency Action Plan can be read online, along with updates, progress reports and supporting documents.
