New sidewalk on Tennent Avenue
About this project
The City of London is committed to providing safe, convenient, and accessible mobility choices for all residents. As part of this commitment, new sidewalks are added each year on streets that currently lack them, to bolster connectivity and provide more mobility options.
In November 2023, City Council approved a Neighbourhood Connectivity Plan for the Northridge neighbourhood that includes adding a sidewalk on one side of Tennent Avenue from A.B. Lucas Secondary School to Glengarry Avenue.
The next step of the process is to evaluate different options for the sidewalk location with resident input. The sidewalk construction is then planned to begin in spring or summer of 2025.

Design options
There are two design options that are being considered for Tennent Avenue (or a combination of the two):
- A sidewalk behind the curb, immediately adjacent to the existing curb.
- Narrowing the roadway for vehicles and locating the sidewalk near the existing curb location. This would align best with the school walkway.
The examples pictured below show the two different options of sidewalks assessed by the City.
Please complete this feedback from to share your preference.
1. A sidewalk behind the curb example - the sidewalk is immediately adjacent to the curb. | 2. Sidewalk with road narrowing example - the roadway is narrowed by shifting the curb toward the centre of the road. |
We want to hear from you
Resident input also helps to inform the sidewalk design. On Wednesday November 6th, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. City staff will knock on doors to listen to your feedback about the ideal sidewalk location and answer any questions you may have; staff will be wearing orange safety vests.
If you cannot discuss the sidewalk at this time, we encourage you to share comments through this webpage, or contact the City Project Manager if you have any further questions.
Land Survey
As part of the design and review process, land surveyors from the City may be seen over the coming weeks collecting survey information in your neighbourhood to gather information for this project such as location of trees and vegetation, hydro poles, etc., as well as topography of the street, including driveways.
The surveyors will be working primarily on the street and in the front yards of properties. There is no need for the surveyors to enter your dwelling or access your back yard.
After the survey is complete, the City will consider factors such as trees and vegetation, existing driveways, on-street parking, emergency vehicle access, winter road maintenance, and streetlighting when determining the best fit and design for a sidewalk.
