About the project:

The City of London is planning to widen Sunningdale Road from Wonderland Road to Villagewalk Boulevard in 2026 and 2027.

Reconstruction on Sunningdale Road includes watermain replacement, storm and sanitary sewer additions, and a new urban roadway cross-section, including cycle track, sidewalks, and curb and gutter, along with the Medway Creek Bridge replacement planned for 2026 and 2027.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2026, subject to approvals.

Proposed work details:

Work to be completed as part of this road reconstruction project in 2026 includes:

Sunningdale Road – From Wonderland Road to Medway Creek Bridge

  • The road cross section will be widened from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, including turn lanes where required, curb and gutter, and island medians.
  • New cycle track and sidewalks in the boulevard on both sides of the roadway.
  • Installing new sanitary and storm sewers with culvert upsizing.
  • Watermain replacement and relocation to allow for the Medway Creek Bridge reconstruction.

Medway Creek Bridge

  • Reconstructing the Medway Creek Bridge to widen from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, including multi-use pathways.

Work to be completed as part of this road reconstruction project in 2027 includes:

Sunningdale Road – From Medway Creek Bridge to Villagewalk Boulevard

  • The road cross section will be widened from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, including turn lanes where required, curb and gutter, and island medians.
  • New cycle track and sidewalks in the boulevard on both sides of the roadway.
  • Installing new storm sewers.
  • Full signalization of Meadowlands Way intersection

Transportation impacts:

The City has evaluated how pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists will be impacted by the construction of this project. The following impacts and mitigations are anticipated during the 2026 construction:

  • The Medway Creek Bridge will be closed throughout the duration of construction.
  • Sunningdale Road from Wonderland Road to the Sunningdale Golf Club Entrance will be reduced to local traffic only during construction.
  • Sunningdale Road from the east of the Medway Creek Bridge to Villagewalk Boulevard will remain fully open.

The following impacts and mitigations are anticipated during the 2027 construction:

  • The Medway Creek Bridge will be closed throughout the duration of construction.
  • Sunningdale Road from the east of the Medway Creek Bridge to Meadowlands Way will be closed to all traffic.
  • Sunningdale Road from Meadowlands Way to Villagewalk Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction.
  • Sunningdale Road from Wonderland Road to west of the Medway Creek Bridge will remain fully open.

The traffic management plan will be communicated, monitored, and adjusted during construction based on traffic conditions. A Construction Notice will be issued before construction begins with additional information.
