About the project
The City of London is planning to reconstruct Sunningdale Road West between Hyde Park Road and Jordan Boulevard this year to upgrade this road to a two-lane urbanized cross-section.
The project won’t start until this spring/summer; however, we’re sharing an update in advance of the project’s tree removals and to provide our contact information for any questions or concerns.
Work to be completed as part of this road reconstruction project includes:
- Tree removals (see Appendix A)
- Removing the current road surface
- Installing new storm sewer (see Appendix B)
- Adding a new granular sub-layer, base granular, and asphalt
- Adding new curbs, catchbasins, and gutters
- Boulevard restoration (adding new topsoil and grassed boulevards)
- New sidewalks and cycling infrastructure on the south side of Sunningdale Road only. Sidewalks and cycling infrastructure on the north side of the road may be installed with a future project tentatively scheduled for 2028.

Above: The map identifies the approximate limits of the construction project area. Work is planned on Sunningdale Road West between Hyde Park Road and 100 m east of Jordan Boulevard.
The City has evaluated how motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists will be impacted by the construction of this project. We have determined that Sunningdale Road West must be closed, with local vehicle traffic only during this construction. There will be possible disruptions to driveway access at different points in the project. Residents who require accommodation (level entry, advanced notice, etc.) should contact the Project Manager to arrange for access during the construction period. Cyclists and pedestrians should exercise caution around construction sites and follow all construction signs. School bus companies have been advised of this project. A Construction Notice will be issued before construction begins with additional information.
