About this project

The City will be reconstructing Southcrest Drive from Beachwood Avenue to Gardenwood Drive to replace aging infrastructure that has exceeded its expected lifecycle. The work will include replacing the existing watermain from Wanasea Avenue to Gardenwood Drive. Construction is expected to start in summer 2021 and anticipated to be completed by winter 2021 with some minor surface asphalt work in spring 2022.

Existing sidewalks on Southcrest Drive will be replaced. At this time there are no plans to install new sidewalk on the south side of Southcrest Drive from the existing sidewalk to Beachwood Avenue.

This spring, you will see City staff in this area marking trees that are planned to be removed due to poor health or construction related issues.

Proposed work details

  • Full road will be removed and reconstructed
  • Watermain would be replaced
  • Water services would be replaced
  • New curb and gutters would be constructed
  • Sidewalks would be repaired
  • New asphalt
  • Some trees would require removal where required, and would later be replaced. New trees would be planted the following year by the City.

The project will consist of a full road closure with local traffic access only. Access to local businesses and residential properties will be maintained with a few possible disruptions at different stages in the project. A hard surface will be maintained to allow for sidewalk access to the best extent possible. Signage will be posted at either end of the work site to alert pedestrians if the sidewalk is closed. Cyclist should exercise caution around the site and follow all construction signs. London Transit (LTC) detours will be in effect during construction and bus stop closures will also be in place.

Residents who require accessibility accommodations are encouraged to contact the City Project Manager to arrange access during construction.
