About this Project
The City of London is revising the existing Ecological Restoration Plan for Kelly Stanton Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) into a Phase I Conservation Master Plan (CMP). Although similar, revising the reports from a restoration plan to a CMP will ensure these areas are effectively managed and ecologically protected for the long-term.
What is an ESA?
Environmentally Significant Areas (ESAs) are large areas that contain natural features and perform ecological functions that warrant their retention in a natural state. They are large features of the Natural Heritage System, often represented by a complex of wetlands, woodlands, significant wildlife habitat or valleylands.
While ESAs are protected by their inclusion in the Green Space Place Type, additional measures to provide for their protection, management and utilization are considered necessary and may include the preparation of CMP (London Plan Policy_1367).
What is a Phase I CMP?
A Phase I CMP focuses on inventorying and evaluating the natural heritage features and functions within an ESA, including associated delineation.
The goal is to identify potential management issues and opportunities, which will then inform a more detailed management plan in Phase II. The Kelly Stanton ESA Phase I CMP will replace the existing Ecological Restoration Plan.
About Kelly Stanton Environmentally Significant Area (ESA)
Kelly Stanton ESA is situated south of Gainsborough Road, west of Hyde Park Road, and north of Oxford Street West within the Hyde Park Planning District. The ESA contains rare pre-settlement tallgrass prairie vegetation and is an area of natural heritage significant within the city. Two provincially rare and 15 regionally rare plants are found in the ESA.
