About this project

The main purpose of this City-led project is to implement the recommended retrofits to the existing Hyde Park Stormwater Management Facility #1B1. This will allow the existing facilities to provide a higher level of service to upstream areas. The decommissioning of the temporary Matthew’s Hall stormwater management facility and trenchless tunnel will complete these facilities improvements.

The Phase 1 of this project, which included retrofitting existing Hyde Park Stormwater Management Facility #1 works, was completed December of 2023. Phase 2 of construction is expected to start July 2024.

    The retrofits to Hyde Park SWMF 1 and Hyde Park SWMF 1B1 will optimize the service levels of the facilities and remove the need for the previously contemplated SWMF 5 and 6 along with supporting the decommissioning of Matthews Hall Temporary SWMF.

    The channel will generally extend from Sarnia Road northerly to the CP Rail embankment and will be designed to accommodate flows from the upstream storm sewer as well as runoff from the adjacent agricultural and industrial lands. Opportunities to incorporate natural materials and ecological enhancements in accordance with the mitigation/compensation plan identified in the EIS will be investigated during detailed design.

    Construction is expected to start in the Spring of 2023.
