Construction update

Phase 2 of construction on Fanshawe Park Road between both ends of North Centre Road is planned to begin on Monday, March 4, requiring lane restrictions throughout this section of Fanshawe Park Road until approximately fall 2024.

Anticipated traffic impacts:

  • Reduced lanes in both directions on Fanshawe Park Road between both ends of North Centre Road.
  • Some turning restrictions will be in place to support traffic flow throughout this busy corridor.
  • People travelling eastbound and westbound on Fanshawe Park Road are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, and to plan ahead by using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps.
  • Drivers are encouraged to zipper merge as they approach the lane reductions. To zipper merge, fill both lanes, drive up to the end and alternate safely. This is the most efficient way to use the road when lane restrictions are in place.
Transit riders:

People walking:

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout this work on at least one side of the road. People walking are advised to follow wayfinding signs to navigate the construction area safely.

Bike access:

People biking are encouraged to use alternative routes when possible and follow signs to reach their destination. Cyclists may be required to dismount and walk.

Business access:

All businesses remain open and accessible during construction. Access to Masonville Mall and other commercial and residential areas will be maintained at all times during construction.

About the project

Construction for the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project aims to enhance safety and comfort for all road users and help accommodate existing and future traffic demand, while upgrading and replacing aging underground infrastructure. The project will also add active transportation improvements, including asphalt in-boulevard bike paths and new concrete sidewalks.

The project will be constructed in stages to minimize inconveniences and maximize access through the area during construction. Construction is planned in 2023 for the first phase of the project and in 2024 for phase two along Fanshawe Park Road.

This project is one of London’s top ten projects to be constructed this year across the city.
