About this project
The City of London is planning to reconstruct the sanitary sewer siphon at the forks of the Thames River in London, Ontario. The Thames River sanitary siphon has been identified as a high priority for replacement due to the poor condition of the municipal infrastructure. The sewer was constructed in 1935 and has reached the end of its useful life. The project will include replacement of the existing siphon with a new parallel siphon and connection to the upstream and downstream sanitary sewer systems.
The replacement of the sanitary siphon also provides the City with a key opportunity to increase the capacity of the sanitary sewer system by removing a significant restriction point. The increased capacity will accommodate upstream development and intensification, supporting the creation of housing units.
Work is planned at Mitchell A Baran Park and Ivey Park, and will include below ground infrastructure to support the construction and operation of the siphon and connection to the existing upstream and downstream low level sanitary sewer system. A new connection will also be made to the high level sanitary sewer system located on King Street. The sanitary siphon itself will be tunneled under the Thames River and will be the largest tunneling project completed to date in London.
