What is the purpose of the plan?
Downtown is vital to London because it serves as the cultural, civic, retail, and economic heart of the city. Our downtown is home to incredible businesses, restaurants, and events, and more people are choosing to live downtown. We also recognize there are many challenges the downtown faces.
Will this plan address social issues such as health and homelessness?
The Downtown Master Plan is not intended to directly address health and homelessness issues, as these are being addressed directly through other important City and community initiatives already in motion. The Downtown Master Plan’s focus is providing a long-term strategy for economic opportunities that support residential, commercial growth, and downtown as a vibrant destination.
We recognize the downtown is experiencing health and homelessness challenges, and urgent work is underway to respond to this crisis through the Whole of Community System Response, which focuses on building highly supportive housing and hubs while supporting pathways from encampments to shelters for the most vulnerable members of our community.
