About this program

The City of London has launched Smart Commute London, London’s first Transportation Management Association, an arrangement to support commuters in London to walk, bike, take transit and carpool more often to get to and from work.

Why join?

Employers who join will have access to these supports for their employees:

• A planning app for employees commute to work

• Carpool matching

• Emergency ride home costs reimbursed in the event of a personal emergency

• Commuter incentives

• Find buddies to walk, cycle and take transit with

• And more!

Employees can save money, be more active and take climate action to reduce emissions.

What are Transportation Management Associations?

A Transportation Management Association is a non-profit, public/private arrangement that serves as a transportation coordinator for businesses wishing to implement commuter programs such as carpooling, vanpooling, telework, transit discount programs, biking, walking, and parking management for their employees and customers, including increasing knowledge of mobility choices.

Smart Commute London will help more Londoners and people who work in London to choose cheaper, less stressful, and greener commuting options to and from their workplace while taking action to address London’s Climate Emergency Action Plan.

What about other trips that are not commuting to work?

A review of other Transportation Management Associations suggests that many of the programs, projects and learnings for employers and employees are equally valuable for non-business trips such as recreation, shopping, entertainment, and visiting. Therefore, easy opportunities to share solutions and ideas between commuters and those wishing for more sustainable mobility choices for other purposes will be done at the same time.
