About this project

The City is proposing cycling improvements to Boler Road between Southdale Road West and Commissioners Road West. This project will provide a link between existing cycling facilities on Southdale Road West, Byron Baseline Road, and the Thames Valley Parkway in Springbank Park.

The above map graphic shows the project area on Boler Road, from Southdale Road West to Commissioners Road West.

The project will add either two-way cycle tracks or a multi-use path in the east boulevard of Boler Road. Cycle tracks are an asphalt path located next to sidewalk that separate cyclists from motor vehicles and pedestrians. A multi-use path is also an asphalt path, but is intended for people walking and cycling, and would not have a sidewalk adjacent to it. The examples below show images of a cycle track and a multi-use path.

This project has specific sections where the city-owned right-of-way is constrained and a multi-use path would be the best fit, instead of cycle tracks and sidewalk. We are seeking community feedback about implementing a multi-use path as the preferred solution in specific locations along the corridor. This project aligns with the City of London’s “Complete Streets” approach to street design, which aims to balance the needs of all road users with an emphasis on road safety. Reallocating existing road space used for on-street parking allows for the addition of safe and comfortable cycling facilities to a busy residential corridor and forms an important connection to the Thames Valley Parkway path system. An example of the updated road configuration is illustrated in the rendering below.
