About William Street:
The City of London is planning to reconstruct William Street to replace aging infrastructure that has exceeded its expected lifecycle. This work will include a watermain replacement as well as storm and sanitary sewer replacements.
This project will also add new protected and painted cycling lanes while completing sidewalk replacement and new asphalt road surface.
William Street project limits, between Regent Street and Grosvenor Street, shown in map above.
Project timeline:
Weather permitting, construction is anticipated to begin in early April 2025 and be completed by fall 2025, with some minor clean-up work and surface asphalt placement in spring 2026.
Anticipated impacts:
William Street will be closed with "local traffic only" in place from Regent Street to Grosvenor Street (including the Victoria Street, Cheapside Street, and Grosvenor Street intersections). People driving are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps to find alternative routes while the road closure is in place. Access will be maintained to businesses and residences during construction.
People biking through the area are encouraged to use nearby streets to reach their destinations and follow signs to navigate safely around the construction site.
Sidewalk closures and restrictions will be necessary during construction. Please watch for signs as there will be uneven surfaces.
William Street Public Update Meeting:
The City of London hosted a Public Update Meeting on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Old North Public School to share construction plans, necessary tree removals, proposed on-street parking changes, discuss property impacts and answer questions about the project. A copy of Public Meeting materials are included below.
