Latest update for this project

Construction is underway, with asphalt removal and replacement completed, and pavement markings planned in November 2025. Additional work to install a shared transit stop and add poured concrete medians to separate cyclists from vehicles will take place in spring 2026.

About this project

The City of London is planning to resurface the road on Ridout Street to replace aging pavement that has exceeded its expected lifecycle. The project will also add cycling lanes to fill in the remaining gap in the Ridout Street cycling lanes, connecting people on bikes between Victoria Bridge and downtown.

The work includes:

  • Removing the current road surface, and damaged sidewalk panels and curbs (complete)
  • Replacing the asphalt road and required concrete sidewalk and curbs (complete)
  • Adding a shared transit stop between York St. and King St. - spring 2026
  • Adding poured concrete medians intermittently to separate cyclists from vehicles - spring 2026

Construction started in the fall of 2025, will pause over the winter, and restart in spring of 2026.

Proposed changes to Ridout Street

The project will add protected cycle lanes (one northbound and one southbound) from Horton Street to King Street. There will be one vehicle lane northbound and one southbound and a centre left-turning lane for drivers. Cyclists will be protected from vehicles in the form of poured concrete medians, with flexible bollards at each median approach.

The project design works within the existing road widths and no physical widening is required. There will be no tree impacts, and no parking impacts to the street.
