About this project
The City of London will be installing new protected cycle lanes and resurfacing Ridout Street in summer/fall 2024.
The new cycling facilities between Horton Street and King Street will connect the cycling facilities on Victoria Bridge to the cycle tracks on Ridout Street downtown. They will include concrete curbs and green flexible bollards.
A full surface rehabilitation of Ridout Street from Horton Street to King Street will be completed as part of this project including new asphalt and pavement markings.
The work includes:
Removing the current road surface, and damaged sidewalk panels and curbs
Replacing the asphalt road and required concrete sidewalk and curbs
Adding two shared transit stops and catch basins between York St and King St
Adding poured concrete medians intermittently to separate cyclists from vehicles
Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2025, and will last approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
The map above identifies the approximate limits of the construction project area. Work is planned on Ridout Street between Horton Street and King Street.
Proposed changes to Ridout Street
The project will add protected cycle lanes (one northbound and one southbound) from Horton Street to King Street. There will be one vehicle lane northbound and one southbound and a centre left-turning lane for drivers. Cyclists will be protected from vehicles in the form of poured concrete medians, with flexible bollards at each median approach.
The project design works within the existing road widths and no physical widening is required. There will be no tree impacts, and no parking impacts to the street.
The updated road configuration is illustrated in the rendering above.
