Consultation has concluded.

About this project

Murray Park is located on 75 Cliftonvale Avenue and currently includes several park amenities including an aging wading pool, washroom building, poor condition tennis court, dated play equipment, lit sports field used for soccer and recreational football, and site furniture in poor condition.

The City is planning a life-cycle renewal of Murray Park that will include several improvements. This project will create an updated and welcoming space for the neighbourhood with enhanced park amenities to help achieve objectives outlined in the City's Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The short and long-term design of this park is expected to include improved infrastructure such as new site furniture, play equipment, trees, sport amenities, wading pool/spray pad, public gathering space, and possible pathway enhancements.

The main benefit of the project is maintaining this neighbourhood park to ensure that it meets the needs of the community and is safe and accessible to everyone.

The project is expected to occur in two phases, subject to public input and budget approvals. Accommodating two phases of design and construction aligns with forecasted budgets and ensures that priority amenities (upgraded playground, sports court, seating) can be installed in 2024 in advance of longer-term work.

Public Feedback

In the spring of 2024, there was an opportunity for the community to provide feedback as to what features and amenities should be included in Murray Park. As a result, the City of London received very positive feedback and would like to thank all who participated in completing the online survey.

Based on public input, improvements to Murray Park will include the following:

  • The existing playground will be replaced with new nature themed equipment that provides a variety of play experiences. Please refer to the attached concepts under ‘Playground Concepts’ in the section to the right. The safety surfacing in the play area will remain as engineered woodchips. Please note that the existing swings will remain in the second circle.
  • The west mini soccer field (closest to the forested area) will be retained for unprogrammed recreational activities. The eastern field will be removed and re-purposed.
  • Existing sports lights will be removed.
  • The existing tennis court will be removed, and one full sized basketball court will be constructed in the park.
  • New seating and picnic areas will be added.
  • New walkways and a pathway loop will be added.
  • New naturalization plantings to help attract pollinators will be incorporated into the northwest corner of the park.
  • New tree planting.
  • The City has also set a space aside for a possible future park amenity based on future public input (ie. Neighbourhood Decision Making Idea).

Construction for the above improvements is planned for late summer/fall 2024. Please note that the schedule is dependent on weather conditions.

Future Park Improvements (timing to be determined) will include the following:

  • Upgrades to the existing wading pool and washroom building.
  • A future plaza/patio space to help support pedestrian gathering near the wading pool.
