Intensifying Residential Uses in the Shopping Area Place Type – Major Shopping Areas
Background
The current policy framework of the Shopping Area Place Type is being reviewed to consider intensifying residential uses in the Shopping Area Place Type to increase the scale of residential development required to meet the city’s housing needs.
This project will create new opportunities for medium and high density residential development within Shopping Areas by adding a new category “Major Shopping Area” that will allow for higher intensity mixed-use infill development on these sites. The goal is to promote infill development within the Shopping Area Place Type to increase housing supply and unit type variety.
