About this project
Hyde Park Village Green, located at 1695 Hyde Park Rd, will be upgraded to an urban park that can better support local community events, as well as area residents. This has been requested for many years by the Hyde Park BIA, local businesses and individuals.
What is an urban park? Urban parks are intended to be focal points within a neighbourhood that serves as a formal gathering space for area residents. Urban parks provide a high level of design quality, including extensive hard surfaces, outdoor lighting, irrigation, seating and horticultural features. These public spaces should be highly visible with maximum street frontage, strategically located in close proximity to densely populated areas and ideally linked to surrounding park corridors and commercial/business districts.
Following the City's survey in March 2022, a detailed concept plan has been prepared for the Hyde Park Village Green project. Proposed improvements, in this first phase of work, include a new plaza space that can be used for events, enhanced pathways throughout the park, an inclusivity garden, landscaped entrances, site furniture and more trees.
The plan also shows future elements that can be completed in a second phase of work or as funding becomes available. These include a new play area, outdoor musical instruments, a wood deck, a community table, and lighting.
