Huron Street Watermain Remediation Work – Thames River Crossing
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedinEmail this link
About this project
In 2009, the 600mm diameter concrete watermain crossing the Thames River became exposed due to erosion. Emergency work was carried out to place erosion control works and protect the watermain. In 2012, the City undertook the Schedule ‘B’ Huron Street Watermain Crossing Environmental Assessment which identified the installation of a new watermain as the preferred alternative. In 2016, the exposed 600mm diameter watermain was abandoned and a new 600mm watermain was installed at a lower elevation in order to maintain adequate water supply to UWO.
The City will be removing the exposed portion of the abandoned 600mm diameter concrete watermain crossing the North Branch of the Thames River in the Huron Street road allowance between Huron street and Philip Aziz Ave. The total length of removal is approximately 100m. The portion of the concrete pipe left in place will continue to be monitored.
Construction will start spring 2022 and is anticipated to last until fall 2022 with minor clean-up work in spring 2023.
Above: The map above shows the project limits. Work will be in the Thames River with temporary access detours at the Thames Valley Parkway entrance at Huron Street and The Parkway.
Ongoing public engagement
The project team has recorded a narrated Project Update Meeting (PUM) for residents to learn about project details and impacts. The video presentation can be accessed on the right-hand side of the page under "Project Update Meeting - Narrated Presentation."
It's also possible to access the PowerPoint presentation used during the PUM on the right-hand side of the page under "Project Update Meeting - PowerPoint Slides."
