The City of London is adding cycling improvements to Homeview Rd between Ferndale Avenue and Southdale Road East, with implementation tentatively scheduled for 2025. This project will improve safety for people riding bikes and fill a gap in the cycling network between the existing White Oak Road bike lanes to the south and the existing Ferndale Ave bike lanes to the east.

The project will add painted bike lanes in alignment with current design guidance and the 2016 Cycling Master Plan. The design works within the existing road width to provide a dedicated space for cyclists while avoiding disruptive and costly road widening. New paint will be applied to the road surface to delineate two 3.0 m vehicle lanes and two 1.5 m cycling lanes. A result of narrow vehicle lanes is often reduced vehicle speeds. The proposed road configuration is illustrated in the rendering below.

Construction Timeline

Adding bike lanes on Homeview Road involves painting new bike lane markings and installing roadside signage. These changes are currently scheduled to take place in 2025.

Work on Homeview Road will be coordinated with a traffic signal rebuild project at the intersection of Southdale Road and Homeview Road/ White Oak Road, which is also planned to be under construction in 2025. The signal rebuild will widen the road at the intersection to maintain the vehicle and turn lanes while incorporating the new bike lanes.

Parking Changes

To accommodate the new bike lanes, on-street parking will be prohibited on both sides of Homeview Road. On-street parking is available on nearby side streets and is within 150 metres from any house (a two- to three-minute walk). During the weekday times of 6:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. no stopping will be permitted on Homeview Road. This requires loading/ unloading, pickups/ drop-offs, and deliveries to take place on nearby side streets. At all other times, no parking will be enforced, which does allow temporary stopping for loading/ unloading and pick-ups/ drop-offs but does not allow parking.

A parking layby will be added on the west side of Homeview Road, immediately south of Golfview Road, to help offset the demand for on-street parking toward the north end of Homeview Road. The parking layby will accommodate three to four vehicles. Additionally, Nichols Arena can be used for public parking, excluding the hours between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
