Living in Developer-Maintained Subdivisions
What are unassumed subdivisions?
Unassumed subdivisions are developer-maintained subdivisions currently managed by the land developer. These areas experience construction activity related to both home development, undertaken by home builders, and necessary infrastructure, as set out by the municipality.
In these areas, you might see unfinished sidewalks and curbs, homes under construction, limited landscaping, vacant lots and blocks that may be undeveloped or blocks that contain stockpile of dirt for an extended period of time.
The development of a developer-maintained subdivision is governed by a Subdivision Agreement between the developer and the City of London. This agreement details the responsibilities of each party and outlines the conditions that must be met before the City assumes full control of the subdivision.
How do I know if I live in a developer-maintained subdivision?
CityMap can help you find your location, check the status of your subdivision, and determine if you live in a developer-maintained subdivision.
To see if your subdivision is a developer-maintained subdivision, follow these steps on the CityMap platform:
1. Visit the CityMap platform.
2. Click on the ‘Layer list’ icon (three stacked squares) in the top right corner.
3. Scroll down to find ‘Subdivision Assumption Status’ and toggle it on.
- Subdivisions highlighted in red indicate that you live in a developer-maintained subdivision or 'unassumed area'.
- Subdivisions highlighted in purple signify a partial developer-maintained subdivision or 'unassumed area'.
4. Enter your address in the top left navigation bar to see if your home is in a developer-maintained subdivision or 'unassumed subdivision'.
Note: Use the plus and minus signs in the top left corner to zoom in for more detail or get an overview of the map.
Connecting with the City
The City’s Neighbourhoods Coordinator is here to address concerns related to construction in these evolving areas. This role involves collaboration with developers, builders, and city staff to ensure a balanced approach between construction progress and resident satisfaction. By working together, we can enhance communication and support the growth of thriving communities.
