Coming soon – London’s strategy to adapt to climate change

What actions do we need to take to adapt to London’s future weather?

The City of London is preparing a Climate Adaptation Discussion Paper and it will be posted to this webpage soon for public review and comment. The City will be collecting comments about the document through the summer.

This Climate Adaptation Discussion Paper will lead to the completion of an Adaptation Plan and Strategy for the City.

Climate adaptation and mitigation are the two components of our response to climate change; adapting to the climate changes occurring now and mitigating the extent of the changes. London’s Climate Emergency Action Plan identifies adaptation and mitigation actions necessary to ward off more severe impacts.

The Climate Adaptation Discussion Paper is an important step in implementing the Climate Emergency Action Plan and Work Plan #8, “Adapting and Make London More Resilient”.

The Discussion Paper will:

  • propose actions to address the most significant risks needed to adapt to London’s changing climate (e.g., flooding, ice storms and heat waves).
  • highlight key community partners and stakeholders who will be requested to review and contribute to the paper (including those listed in Workplan #8)
  • identify climate adaptation actions which may address components in other CEAP workplans including #6, “Implementing Natural and Engineered Climate Solutions and Carbon Capture”.
  • highlight the past and current actions taking place by city administration and community partners
  • recognize the local experts and knowledge keepers who live and work in London and contribute to the solutions needed to address these challenges.
