The City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines is an illustrated document based on the City Building Policies of The London Plan. The guidelines will provide written, photographic and/or rendered examples of each of the relevant city building policies, including examples of how a policy might manifest in different 'place types' or contexts.

The City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines will assist in implementing the City Building Policies of The London Plan by providing examples that demonstrate how the policies can be applied within unique contexts. This document will act as a guide to help establish exceptionally designed built spaces that are operationally sustainable.

The City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines will not reconsider the policies of The London Plan. It will not create regulations or alter the Zoning By-law, the Site Plan Control By-law, Engineering Standards, or the Complete Streets Manual.

Our City Building Policies provide the over-arching direction for how we will grow as a city over the next 20 years.

The objective of this project is to establish a City-Wide Urban Design Guideline document that elaborates on the The London Plan City Design Policies and provides direction on how they can be implemented in different contexts.

This document will be adopted as a guideline in the 1989 Official Plan and The London Plan.

Please refer to The London Plan for a description of the City Building Policies.

The City Building Policies in The London Plan are intended to support and shape the image of our city and create a sense of place that is unique to the City of London. The City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines will better illustrate how the policies can be applied within various contexts throughout the city.

The City-Wide Urban Design Guidelines can be utilized by the development community, members of the public and various City departments in the review of development proposals and capital projects.
