Consultation has concluded
Following the survey that was completed in the summer, the City of London’s Parks Planning and Design team have been revising the plans for Cavendish Park, located at 136 Cavendish Crescent.
Survey Results
Survey responses indicated that this park is primarily used for walking and hiking, and nature observation. The top three preferred features and amenities to add to the park were improvements to the existing hiking trail, more playground equipment, and more tree plantings. Survey results can be found under “Documents”.
A majority of respondents also indicated support for the proposed food hub. The City is working with the community partners to finalize details.
Although many respondents suggested the addition of sports courts to the park, such as tennis and basketball courts, this type of amenity is not possible on this site. This is because Cavendish Park is built on top of a closed landfill site, and as a result, no impervious surfaces are permitted, as they would be prone to failure due to shifting of land.
Park plans
New granular trails will be added through the park to provide better access for walking and to link with the existing trail in the river valley. An additional play area will be created with new natural playground equipment aimed at children from 2- to 12-year-old. Below is the proposed natural play equipment for the park. Please note, this is a concept and final design/layout may vary. The new play equipment is planned to be installed early summer 2022.
The existing trail (between the access on Forward Ave. and the west side of Cavendish Cres.) will be upgraded with a granular surface and the existing pedestrian bridge will be replaced to ensure a safe, accessible and more sustainable hiking trail experience. Native trees will be protected and retained. Priority invasive species including buckthorn will be managed consistent with the London Invasive Plant Management Strategy.
