London’s Building Safer Communities Fund Grant program supports the development of new, youth-focused prevention, intervention, and transformation projects aimed at reducing gun and gang violence in London. The objectives of London’s Building Safer Communities Fund Grant are to:

  • Effectively address risk factors that may result in a young person engaging in gun and gang violence.
  • Enhance protective factors that may result in a young person refraining from or exiting involvement in gun and gang violence.
  • Identify and support innovative, evidence-based practices and programs to prevent or address youth involvement in gun and gang violence.

In total, there is $2,783,933 in funding available through London’s Building Safer Communities Fund Grant program for December 2023 to March 2026.

Background

In March 2022, the federal Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness announced new federal support to prevent gun and gang violence through the $250 million Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF), administered via Public Safety Canada. The fund is intended to help municipalities and Indigenous communities tackle the root causes of gun and gang violence by focusing on programs that support children, youth and young adults who are involved in or at risk of gun violence and gang involvement.

The City of London received $2,783,933 in funding over a three-year period toward the implementation of projects selected through London’s Building Safer Communities Fund Grant program. London’s Building Safer Communities Fund Grant program is being administered through the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
